SES Procedures

Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival

  • Students may enter the building at circle drive at 7:55 a.m. Students who arrive before 7:55 must be signed in to Latchkey.

  • Parents may drop students off along at front doors between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m.

  • Parents who enter the building must park in a parking space or along the street. Vehicles may not be left unattended by the yellow curb.

  • For school safety, please drop your child off via car at circle drive or on foot at the front doors.  After the first week of class, we discourage parents walking students to class.

  • School will begin promptly at 8:20 am.

  • Students who arrive after 8:20 must be signed in by an adult at the office. Because classroom activities begin promptly and it is important that student learning not be interrupted, parents of students arriving after 8:20 may not walk the student to his or her classroom. Parents should park in the parking lot or along the street and press the buzzer to accompany their child to the office to sign in.

Dismissal

Students will exit the building at 3:00 p.m. (2:30 p.m. on Fridays)

  • Parents wishing to come into the building to pick up students early must buzz in, alert the office and wait for students in the foyer.

  • Students being picked up by car will exit through circle drive where cars will be parked along the sidewalk. Please do not park and walk up to circle drive.  Circle drive is for cars only.  You will be asked to walk to front doors to pick up your student.

  • Parents picking up at front doors or by car at circle drive will need a YELLOW NAME TAG identifying your student. You can get this from the office.

  • Students being picked up by an adult will exit the front doors.  No child will leave through front doors unless accompanied by an adult.

If a student must leave school early, the parent or guardian should come to the office to sign the student out. A secretary will call the student down to the office to be dismissed. A student will not be called from class until the parent arrives to sign the student out.

Attendance

Parents are asked to call the school by 9:00 a.m. if a student is absent. A note explaining the absence should be sent to the office when the student returns to school. The note must be received within three days of the student’s return to school in order for the absence to be excused. Per Indiana Code a report will be made to the Indiana Department of Children and Family services when a child has 10 or more unexcused absences.

Birthday Celebrations

Some parents choose to bring or send in a treat for the whole class to celebrate a student’s birthday. Parents are asked to make arrangements for the treat with the classroom teacher at least two days in advance. Treats should not include hard candy, gum or balloons to be blown up by students.

Latchkey

Before and after school childcare is available start at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. Parents will be charged a per hour rate. Student must be enrolled in the program in advance in order to participate. Enrollment forms are available in the school office and online. Failure to pay Latchkey fees, will result in termination of services.  Latchkey is available if there is a delay to the start of the school day. If school ends up being cancelled, parents will be called to come and pick their children up. However, if there’s an early dismissal, latchkey will not be provided.

Messages for Students

Students will follow their normal dismissal routine (ride the bus, go to latchkey, go to circle drive or go to the front to be picked up) unless the office receives a note or a phone call from a parent or legal guardian. Parents are asked to call the office before 2:00 pm so that there is sufficient time to deliver the message without interrupting classroom instruction. Please leave the message with one of the secretaries (not on the teacher’s voice mail). On Friday please call by 1:30 pm with any after school instructions for your child.

Parking

Parent and visitor parking is available along the street in front of the school.

Phone Calls

Parent teacher communication is a vital part of a child’s education. It is also important that student receive high quality instruction that is free from interruption. During class time, calls to teachers will be directed to the teacher’s voicemail. Email is also a convenient and effective means of communication.

Student Information

Parents may access their student’s information including report card grades, discipline records, and lunch account balances on a link from the school website. Parents may contact the school office to receive a password.

Volunteers and Visitors

All parent volunteers and visitors must have a current, completed criminal history check on file in the office. The criminal history check must be completed each year. For your convenience, it is strongly encouraged for all parents and possible future guests to complete this form during the month of August. Criminal history check requests must be turned in to the office two weeks in advance of the field trip in order for the chaperone to be eligible to attend the field trip. Any visitor eating lunch in the school cafeteria must have passed a limited criminal history check.

To keep our students safe, all school doors are locked. Visitors should press the button to the left of the front door. Please face the box and announce your purpose of visit. Hats and hoodies should be removed so we can better identify you. Once admittance is granted, proceed to the front office which is the first door on the left. Once there, you will sign-in and receive a visitor’s sticker.

School policies including dress code, discipline procedures, cell phone use, etc. are available in the student handbook. The handbook is part of the student agenda for grades 2-6 and sent in the student enrollment packet for grades K-1. The handbook is also available on the school website. Please read these policies and discuss them with your child.
