It's TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY!
We are so appreciative of the many fantastic teachers here at Spencer-Owen Community Schools that make our schools a great place to learn for our students! Each Tuesday, we will feature one of our teachers and ask them to share why they love teaching.
This week, we are featuring Ms. Brittany VanHook. Ms. VanHook is an inclusion teacher at Owen Valley Middle School and has taught for 10 years.
Thank you for all that you've done for your students, Ms. VanHook!
"Why I Love Teaching"
This is my 10th year teaching, and every year I am here for one primary reason, my students. Middle school students tend to carry a bad reputation, but I can't imagine working with any other age group. At this age, they are starting to discover who they are and what they want to be. I get to be a small part of that. I come to school knowing they need me, not just to help them learn math but to share a story, a laugh, or sometimes a few tears. They need me, and honestly, I need them too.
There is no other profession quite like teaching. It is hard, no day is the same, and it can be exhausting, but when I see former students, I know it is the only profession for me.

ILEARN testing continues this week. We will test mostly in the mornings. During testing no cell phones, wireless earbuds, or smart watches are allowed. These must be stored outside of the testing room. Students will need wired headphones and charger Chromebooks. Tuesday we will finish the Language Arts CAT test. Students will start it if they didn’t start yet.
Do your best! #socsowen #beawesometoday

We have several library books that need to be returned. Please call Mary Sadler, our librarian, if you have questions. #socsowen

Thanks to a coordinated effort of staff and students for updating our entry bulletin board. #socsowen #beawesometoday

It's a beautiful night for a track meet! Go OV!

Students did a great job with testing today! Please continue to remind them to bring a charged Chromebook & positive attitude. Some students didn't finish their test today. They will get to finish. They can go ahead and move to the next next with their groups tomorrow.

Students played BINGO with test taking strategies during SEL today. Winners chose snacks or drinks as prizes. Lots of winners today! We will all be winners when we bring a charged Chromebook, and come to school ready to do our best this week! #beawesometoday #socsowen

Field trip forms/money for 8th graders is due Monday! Please call the office if you need a form or have any questions.
Our eighth grade extravaganza is going to be extra! We will have wet and dry inflatables, a cookout, student selected team competitions and much more!
Get your permission forms in!

ILEARN testing begins this week and continues until all students are finished.
We are taking the state mandated tests for math and language arts.
We will be testing most students Tuesday through Thursday, starting first thing in the morning. Tests can occur on other days as well.
Please make sure students have CHARGED Chromebooks!
They will also need wired headphones/earbuds. Bluetooth earbuds, cell phones, and smart watches will NOT be allowed in the testing rooms. These will be stored safely nearby.
Students should be rested, be on time, eat a good breakfast, stay calm, and do their best!
Thanks for your help in making this experience stress free and smooth!
