Eleven elementary teachers from across the district are attending the 3-day Orton Gillingham Academy to build their capacity in reading instruction.
The Orton-Gillingham approach is a direct, explicit, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy. It is especially helpful for students when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily, including students with dyslexia.
Spencer-Owen Community Schools is committed to providing professional development training for our teachers using best practices for reading instruction for our students.
